How to Buy Dual Line Stunt Kites
The general rule of thumb is the smaller the kite, the faster it flies, while the larger the kite the more pull it gives. We could illustrate it like this:

So a middle sized kite might be expected to be the best kite, combining just enough speed and pull to give the best flight. But modern kite makers can design almost any features they want into kites. Choose based on your needs, and present ability. Consider where you want to be in few weeks of practice.

The Jazz (similar to the Prism 2005 Catalyst) is a smaller kite, lighter pull, and fast, but does not have the speed of the Nexus. Predictable handling makes this an excellent starer stunt kite, for anyone, but particularly younger and smaller persons. Good low wind, inland flyer. Folds to 26 inches to fit in luggage.
The Nexus is a fast responsive and demanding kite, for the novice with some experience, who wants a challenge. Gives respectable pull for a smaller kite. Packs to 29” for approved airline carryon. Good value. Also available in a five stack, with tails, which is incredible to fly and always draws an audience.
The Quantum has the most pull of the lineup, but less speed than the Nexus. The quantum is a good kite for adults and older teens that like heavy pull in higher wind that can rock you on your feet. . Although the Quantum is hard pulling, it is moderately fast, and flies well in high wind. Breaks down to 36” for carry-on planes. This kite will take a punishment. It has the toughest frame. We use this kite to teach new folks.
The Hypnotist (formerly the Mirage) is a good kite for adult beginners, and has very little pull and medium speed. It is designed as a freestyle trick kite. Both the Quantum and the Hypnotist have the Kinetic Dissipator, on the spine, making crashes less brutal to the spine and spreader bar. This is a forgiving kite. It is a good choice for relaxation flight at the end of a hard day at work. Not recommended for very high wind past 20 mph. Good for inland areas. A favorite of our staff. Folds to 39” for carryon on most planes.
The E-2 is a precision flying, quick kite for intermediate to advanced. It is not a learner kite and should not be used by inexperienced flyers. It turns corners faster, yet is moderate to fast speed and light on pull. A great kite in three beautiful color designs. Has the largest wind range. A good kite for strong coastal wind, and inland flying. The 60” extended case can fold to 34” small!! My personal favorite.
Summary: In our judgment the two best learning kites are the Jazz, at the bottom of the price range, and the Quantum, in the mid price range. The Jazz has no depth to provide more interest later. But it is easy to learn, and only moderately fast. The Quantum is more challenging, and it takes a beating. If you want to go beyond stunts and learn tricks, start with the Hypnotist for just a few more dollars. You will have a good learner kite and a lot more kite for the money. If you like life fast and loud, buy a Nexus. Have some experience and want smooth precision and turns on a dime, buy an E-2.
