Lots of new kites were introduced for 2009. They were previewed at the KTAI Convention at San Dustin, FL. Lets look at a few single line kites, first.

NEW TECH KITES only brought new products. Of those, three were new single line kites by Xilhu “Tiger” Lee, including a green and yellow Pterodactyl, and a 3D Eagle, and Toucan. All are 92” wingspan. These winged wonders are beautiful and well made. Another flying machine is the new 3D Tactical Fighter, which is a very well detailed and authentic looking military design.

Among the Cellular Kites, is a 48” Shooting Star and 36” Snowflake, both multi faceted on the order of Kathy Goodwind’s Starflake. In the designer series by Robert Brasington is the Angel kite, at 45 inches wide by 102 “ long. It is a dodging kite with multiple flowing tails.

The Movie The Kite Runner, based on Khaled Hosseini’s 2003 novel is both horrific and haunting. With the book, you want to stop reading, but you can’t put it down. The movie is just as powerful. It is about betrayal and hopes for redemption. It is about cultures in collision. It is about the terrible Taliban, and their cruelty. It is about war, occupation, and the devastation it brought on Afghanistan in the 1970’s. It is also about fighter kite flying. (more…)

Good news from Prism! It’s rare that good things happen more quickly than planned. But Prism has announced that they are thrilled to release a new, unique product ahead of schedule.

The 2007 EO (Expandable Object) series is the original brainchild of Phil McConnachie, internationally renowned kite designer from Australia. His EO6 and EO10 are dynamic box kites with intersecting elliptical planes that fly stable or as marvelous tumblers. They’re completely unique and eye-catching in the sky, and best of all there’s literally no assembly required. The expandable structure erects itself with a built-in elastic as you remove it from its unique travel clasp. Just find some wind, pop it open, and watch it soar and tumble as it climbs into the sky. Three contrasting color combinations can be flown in multiples on a single line for a spectacular show. Convenient, unique travel clasp holds 200 feet of line with winder handle (included). (more…)
